Don't put your pouch in your recycling - here's why.
Finished with your pouch? Don't put it in your recycling.
Like all pouches on the market, ours are made with mixed plastics to ensure ease of use. Whilst being much more energy efficient to produce, store and ship giving them a planet-loving edge over rigid plastic bottles, their material composition means they aren't widely recyclable. However, after digging a bit deeper, it is clear that recycling is not always the most logical answer when it comes to household packaging, particularly in cosmetics - you can read more about the problem with recycling here.
Creating a circular economy
We've discovered that if you collect them in large quantities, it becomes highly efficient to reprocess them to become other products. Using a process that uses supercritical water, where the water acts as ‘molecular scissors’ to break down the polymeric bonds, donating hydrogen to create useful short-chain, stable hydrocarbons, which are separated and stored. Unlike traditional recycling, where mixed plastic has a finite amount of times it can be re-used and ultimately ends up in landfill, there is no limit to how many times this process can happen.
In just 20 minutes, this process does what takes nature 200 million years.
This model eliminates waste plastic leakage into the environment and reduces the requirement for fossil feedstock in plastic production. In other words, plastic can be used again and again with no limits and with zero-waste.
What does my pouch become?
After this process is complete, the pouches are stored as hydrocarbon feedstock. These compounds can be used to fuel homes, run cars or be used to make plastics with no toxic by-products being produced in the process.
Why not use no plastic at all?
Our company ethos and mission is to find a halfway point between convenience and sustainability. One study showed that in a group of 25,000 consumers, only 40% would be willing to give up convenience in return for an environmentally-safe product. Soaked pouches are effortless and planet-friendly, ensuring that you don't have to give up on convenience, or the environment.
